CFL Week 14 Odds, Preview and Picks

With the 2019 Canadian Football League season rolling right along and teams in both conferences looking to improve their hopes of reaching the playoffs, it’s time to take a look at who’s on the gridiron this coming weekend and which CFL teams are offering the best value against their CFL odds.

CFL Week 14 Odds, Preview and Picks

  • When: September 13 – September 14
  • Live Stream: CFL.ca

Ottawa (3-8) at BC (1-10)

  • When: Friday, September 13, 2019 at 7:00 PM
  • Where: BC Place, Vancouver, BC
  • CFL Week 14 Odds: BC -5.5 / Total: 50

Ottawa has lost four straight and eight of nine including their embarrassing 46-17 blowout loss against Toronto last weekend while never coming close to covering the chalk as a 5.5-point home favorite. The RedBlacks are averaging a pitiful 19.1 points per game while allowing 30.2 points per contest defensively. BC has lost seven straight and nine of their last 10 games including a 21-16 loss against Montreal last weekend, although the Lions managed to cover the chalk as a 6.5-point road dog.

Betting Trends

  • OTT are 2-8 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Under is 7-2 in OTT last 9 games in September.
  • OTT are 28-12 ATS in their last 40 road games.
  • BC are 3-13 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • BC are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall.

Prediction

BC might look like they’re the worst team in this matchup, but the Lions have shown some signs of life recently by keeping up with Hamilton and Montreal before falling in each of their last two games. BC has gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Friday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in the month of September. With the Lions playing at home and facing an Ottawa team that has gone 3-7 ATS in their last 10, I feel like BC is the pick to win and narrowly cover the chalk in this Week 14 pairing.

Pick: BC -5.5

Hamilton (9-2) at Calgary (7-4)

Hamilton has won four straight and six of their last seven including a 38-27 win over Toronto two weeks ago that saw quarterback Dane Evans pass for 442 yards with two TDs and two interceptions while adding 42 rushing yards and another score. The defending Grey Cup champs have a lot to play for as they sit two games in back of Winnipeg for first place in the CFL West.

Calgary has won two straight and five of their last seven including a 33-17 win over Edmonton last weekend that saw quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell throw for 254 yards and two touchdowns, though he also tossed three costly interceptions in the loss while the Stampeders were held to just 29 rushing yards in the win.

Betting Trends

  • Tiger-Cats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
  • Tiger-Cats are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games.
  • Tiger-Cats are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a bye week.
  • Tiger-Cats are 2-6-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Stampeders are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Stampeders are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in September.
  • Stampeders are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • Stampeders are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 14.
  • Stampeders are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win.

Prediction

Calgary might be playing at home in this contest and they might be favored, but for me, Hamilton has been the better and more consistent team all season, which is why I’m backing the defending champs to get it done in this matchup despite being on the road. Hamilton beat Calgary 30-23 at home earlier this season and I believe they’re going to get the regular season sweep this time around!

Pick: Hamilton +5.5 Points

Montreal (6-4) at Saskatchewan (7-4)

Montreal has won three straight and six of their last eight including a narrow 21-16 win over BC last weekend that saw quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. pass for 232 yards with one touchdown and one interception while adding two rushing scores in the win. Saskatchewan had their six-game winning streak snapped in their humbling 35-10 loss to Winnipeg last weekend as quarterback Cody Fajardo was limited to 196 passing yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Betting Trends

  • Alouettes are 9-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Alouettes are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games.
  • Alouettes are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games.
  • Alouettes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • Alouettes are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games in September.
  • Roughriders are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss.
  • Roughriders are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games.
  • Roughriders are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
  • Roughriders are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games in September.

Prediction

Saskatchewan might have suffered an embarrassing loss in their last contest, but I like the Roughriders to get back in the win column in this contest as they are both, playing at home and looking to improve their postseason hopes. Despite their improved recent play, Saskatchewan holds the slight statistical edge on both sides of the ball, plus the Roughriders are going to be seriously motivated to get back on track in this contest. Saskatchewan beat Montreal 17-10 on the road early this season and I believe they’ll duplicate that feat by winning and covering the chalk as a 6-point fave in this one!

Pick: Saskatchewan -6
