Syracuse Orange 2019 College Football Season Betting Guide
Well, make no mistake about it collegiate gridiron betting buffs. All eyes will be on the Syracuse Orange when they take to the field for the start of the 2019 NCAA college football season. You see, after reaching the double-digit win mark for the first time since 2001, the Orange are hoping for a repeat of their successful 2018 campaign, although they’re definitely not sneaking up on anyone this coming season.
Whether you believe Syracuse can challenge for another double-digit winning season or whether you believe last season was a fluke of epic proportions, there are a multitude of things you need to know about Syracuse as they get set for Year 4 of the Dino Babers era.
Thanks to the expert information you’re about to get in this 2019 betting guide on the Orange, you’re going to have a great idea of how to wager on the ACC title hopefuls once the new season gets underway in a mere matter of weeks. Now, let’s get down to business.
Syracuse Orange 2019 College Football Season Betting Guide
- ATS: 10-3 (W-L) / 9-3-1 (ATS) / 5-1-1 (Home) / 4-2-0 (Away) / 1-2-0 (Grass) / 8-1-1 (Turf)
- O/U: 7-6-0 (W-L) / 4-3-0 (Home) / 3-3-0 (Away) / 1-2-0 (Grass) / 6-4-0 (Turf) / 67.2 (Total)
2018 Team Leaders
- Touchdowns: Eric Dungey (15)
- Rushing: Moe Neal (869)
- Passing: Eric Dungey (2868)
- Receiving: Jamal Custis (906)
- Interceptions: Andre Cisco (7)
Last season, senior quarterback Eric Dungey led the team with 15 rushing touchdowns while passing for 2,868 yards and an additional 18 TD passes. Now, senior running back Moe Neal rushed for a team-high 869 yards and five scores while senior wideout Jamal Custis caught 51 passes for a team-high 906 yards and six scores. Freshman defensive back Andre Cisco was highly impressive in recording seven interceptions to tie for the national lead in that category. Unfortunately, Dungey and Custis are both gone, though Neal and Cisco return in 2019.
- Total Yards: 466.8 / Rank 18
- Passing Yards: 264.7 / Rank 31
- Rushing Yards: 202.1 /Rank 34
- Points Scored: 40.2 / Rank 11
- Field Goal %: 88.2 / Rank 9
Syracuse was outstanding on offense last season as Dungey shined, both passing and rushing the rock. The Orange finished 18th in total offense, 31st in passing, 34th in rushing and a stellar 11th in scoring (40.2 ppg).
- Total Yards: 426.5 / Rank 86
- Passing Yards: 264.1 / Rank 116
- Rushing Yards: 162.5 /Rank 64
- Points Allowed: 27 / Rank 65
- Field Goal %: 76.9 / Rank 90
While the Orange soared on offense last season, they certainly needed to because their defense was closer to mediocre than anything else. Syracuse finished the 2018 campaign ranked 86th overall, a dismal 116th against the pass, 64th against the run and 65th in points allowed (27.0 ppg).
Like any team that is going with a first-time starter under center, no one really knows how sophomore quarterback Tommy DeVito is going to make out in 2019. The good news though is that he has a pair of gifted running backs in Moe Neal and junior Abdul Adams, a player that averaged 9.2 yards per carry as a sophomore at Oklahoma before transferring.
There’s more good news on the defensive side of the ball with senior edge rushers Alton Robinson and Kendall Coleman both looking to improve on their respective double-digit-sack seasons. Senior corner Chris Fredrick and senior strong safety Evan Foster are both experienced as are sophomore cornerback Trill Williams and the aforementioned Andre Cisco after he won All-America honors as a freshman. Everything isn’t a bed of roses for the Orange though seeing as how they must find two capable starters at linebacker and three along the offensive line, including both tackle positions.
However, outside of their Week 3 home date against powerful Clemson, Syracuse’s 2019 schedule just doesn’t look overly challenging, seeing as how the Orange took out conference rival Wake Forest, Louisville and NC State by putting at least 41 points on the board in each contest. Syracuse will be looking for revenge against Pittsburgh and their road date at Florida State looks daunting, but really, this is a team that looks like it could record back-to-back double-digit winning seasons for the first time since 1991 and 1992.
If you don’t know, I’ve already gone on record to say that Syracuse has one of the easiest win total odds in the country, so there’s that as well. Don’t be surprised to see the Orange make a push for 10 wins again in 2019, I know I won’t be shocked at all.
