New York Yankees 2021 World Series Odds Analysis

New York Yankees 2021 World Series Odds Analysis

The question is quite simple MyBookie  MLB betting faithful. Will the polarizing New York Yankees win the 2021 World Series?

New York is the odds-on-favorite to win the AL pennant in 2021, just as they were a year ago, but whether the Bronx Bombers can actually live up to that status this coming campaign remains to be seen. With the start of the 2021 MLB regular season getting closer by the day, it’s time to find out what likely lies ahead for the Yankees this season so you can start getting ready to make your bets against their MLB odds.

MLB – Will Yankees Win World Series this Year?

2020 in Review

New York went 33-27 last season to finish second to Tampa Bay (40-20) in the AL East. The Yankees ranked a stellar fourth in scoring (5.25 rpg), 14th in team batting average (.247), fifth in OPS (.789) and fifth in home runs (94). Defensively, New York finished a mediocre 14th in team ERA (4.35), 11th in WHIP (1.24), seventh in strikeouts per game (8.0) and 12th in quality starts (18).

New York’s biggest offseason acquisitions were those of veteran hurlers, Lance Lynn and Corey Kluber. The 33-year-old Lynn went 6-3 with a 3.32 ERA in 13 starts with the Texas Rangers last season. Kluber, the AL Cy Young winner for Cleveland in 2014 and 2017, went 0-0 in only one start in his first and only season with Texas last season before being shut down with a shoulder injury.

The Lineup

  • DJ LaMahieu – 2B-3B-1B
  • Aaron Judge – OF
  • Aaron Hicks – OF
  • Giancarlo Stanton – DH
  • Luke Voit – 1b-DH
  • Gleyber Torres – SS
  • Clint Frazier – OF
  • Giovanny Urshela – 3B
  • Gary Sanchez – C

Analysis: Voit hit .277 with a team-high 22 home runs in 56 games while DJ LaMahieu hit a blistering .364 with 10 home runs and 10 doubles. Giovanny Urshela hit an impressive .289 with 30 RBI. Unfortunately, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton continued their respective trends of getting injured by playing in only 28 and 23 games respectively. Gary Sanchez hit an ice-cold .147 in 49 games while Aaron Hicks hit .225 with a paltry six home runs in 54 games.

Starting Pitching

  • Gerrit Cole
  • Corey Kluber
  • Jameson Taillon
  • Jordan Montgomery
  • Domingo German
  • Luis Severino

Analysis: Gerrit Cole went 7-3 with a solid 2.84 ERA in 12 starts in his first season with New York in 2020. Jameson Taillon missed the entire 2020 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery a year ago. Taillon went 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA in seven starts with the Pirates in 2019. Jordan Montgomery went 2-3 with a high, 5.11 ERA in 10 starts last season.

Domingo German went a stupendous 18-4 in 2019, but needs to prove himself again after missing the entire 2020 campaign because of a league-imposed suspension following a domestic violence incident in September 2019. Last, but not least, Luis Severino is going to make his return at some point after missing almost two full years following Tommy John surgery.

“I hope to be back sooner but that’s not something (where) I have an exact date,” Severino said. ” The most important thing, I feel good and just take it day by day. I’m close to throwing bullpens. After that, I’m going to face hitters.”

As it stands right now, I expect Gerrit Cole will be rock-solid while challenging for the AL Cy Young. After that, I’m not certain about anyone. Corey Kluber clearly isn’t the same pitcher he used to be. Jameson Taillon and Luis Severino are coming off big injuries. Jordan Montgomery needs to be way better than he was last season and Domingo German has to move past his off-field issues.

The Bullpen

  • Aroldis Chapman – Closer
  • Chad Green
  • Zach Britton
  • Justin Wilson
  • Jonathan Loaisiga
  • Darren O’Day
  • Luis Cessa
  • Jhoulys Chacin
  • Reggie McClain
  • Tyler Lyons
  • Albert Abreu

Analysis: Jonathan Loaisiga went 3-0 in three starts last season with a solid 3.52 ERA. Now with the Chicago Cubs, Jonathan Holder went 3-0 in one start. Unfortunately, these three hurlers are the only pitchers that recorded winning records for New York last season. Zach Britton (1-2) did finish with a stellar 1.89 ERA and Aroldis Chapman went 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA.

As it stands right now, New York is going to be depending on a lot of untested relievers to get the job done in 2021. The Yankees do have some gifted young hurlers with live arms, but that doesn’t always translate into big league success.

The Manager

  • Aaron Boone

Analysis: Boone has gone 236-148 in three seasons leading the Yankees, but just 11-10 in the postseason (.524). Boone finished the 2019 campaign second in Manager of the Year voting and I think he’s well-suited for the job in New York. The fact of the matter is that Boone’s biggest two hitters, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, are perpetually injured.

The Prediction

Did you know…Giancarlo Stanton has only played one full season in three years with the Yankees. The 31-year-old big-bopper played 158 games in 2018 in his first season, but finished 19th in the AL MVP voting. In 2019, Stanton played just 18 games and last season, he suited up in just 23 of 60 games. Stanton has a stunningly low, seven home runs in 41 games since the end of the 2018 campaign. After hitting 52 homers in 2017, Aaron Judge has just 63 over the last three seasons. Judge missed 50 games in 2018, 60 games in 2019 and 32 of 60 games last season.

If Stanton and Judge – or hell, just one of them – don’t show up in a big way in 2021, I just can’t see the Yankees winning the World Series. New York’s pitching situation has a boatload of question marks and I just don’t see New York getting past at least other AL World Series contenders.

MyBookie’s software and lines are in line with other books, but they really stand out with the promotions. They are more frequent and offer better deals than their competitors. I’ll never go back to another book.
